The Egyptian Presidential Palace issued a statement on June 26 local time, saying that Egyptian President Sisi had a phone call with British Prime Minister Starmer on the same day. Both Egypt and Britain believed that it was necessary to restart the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, resolve the crisis peacefully, and avoid resorting to force.
Sisi stressed that Israel and Iran have ceased fire, and the current temporary easing of tensions in the Middle East should be used as an opportunity to immediately achieve a “lasting ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip and ensure the emergency delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. He called on the international community to strive for a “fair and comprehensive solution” on the basis of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
