ChatGPT, a chatbot from the US artificial intelligence research laboratory “OpenAI”, has crashed globally, and users are unable to connect.
ChatGPT users were unable to connect to the Internet through various devices at around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday (December 12), and connection error messages appeared. Many people wailed on the X platform, “ChatGPT is down, I can’t do anything, I’m going to be fired.”
“Nanyang Business Daily” quoted US media reports saying that the outage is said to affect millions of users around the world.
At around 1 a.m. today, Facebook was unable to post and dynamic loading failed. In addition, Meta’s Messenger, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp also had problems. Users complained until after 5 a.m. when things returned to normal.
About six hours later, ChatGPT also suffered a global outage. As of press time, its website is still unavailable, and the page only shows “ChatGPT is currently unavailable. We have identified the problem and are working hard to launch a fix.”
Users have posted: “It’s over, it’s down, I can’t even log in”, “It seems that AI has developed to the point where it has found its own shutdown button”.
In response, OpenAI confirmed that it had discovered the situation and was investigating. Currently, ChatGPT, Sora and API are still closed and will be repaired as soon as possible. It also apologized to the affected users.
It is reported that the cause of the failure is still unknown.
Some netizens speculated that it may be related to the integration of iOS 18.2 and ChatGPT launched by Apple on the 11th. Apple launched iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 on the 11th, and also launched a new “Apple Intelligence” feature, including integrating writing tools and Siri with ChatGPT to upgrade the user experience.
