On June 26, local time, Harvard University in the United States and the University of Toronto in Canada announced a contingency plan. If the US visa restriction policy prevents some Harvard graduate students from returning to the United States, the plan will allow them to continue studying in Canada. This is the first international student contingency plan announced by Harvard University since the US Department of Homeland Security revoked Harvard University’s eligibility to recruit international students last month.
According to the plan, in response to possible visa issues, students at Harvard Kennedy School of Government who are unable to return to the United States will have the option to continue their studies through the visiting student program of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. The program will integrate courses taught by faculty members of the Kennedy School and the Munk School.
The statement said that the contingency plan is to alleviate the uncertainty faced by students, but it will only be implemented if there is a sufficient demand for international students who cannot enter the United States due to visa or entry restrictions.
The media office of Harvard Kennedy School of Government said that in the past five years, 52% of the school’s students came from outside the United States. (PUDIU News)
