Greek player Tsitsipas defeated Auger-Aliassime from Canada 6-3 in the men’s singles final of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Saturday (March 1) to win his first men’s ATP 500 championship.
This is the third time Tsitsipas has reached the Dubai Championship final in his career. He lost to Federer and Djokovic in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
As the fourth seed of the tournament, Tsitsipas performed strongly in this final and defeated Auger-Aliassime in two straight sets in just 90 minutes.
Tsitsipas said: “There is no secret to winning today, it’s all about hard work. I am really relieved to finally lift this trophy after three attempts. This has always been a goal in my heart, and I am very happy that it has finally come true.”
After winning this victory, the 26-year-old Tsitsipas returned to the top ten in the world for the first time since May last year. He said: “Being able to occupy a place in the top ten in the world is definitely one of the best feelings a tennis player can experience. Behind this is hard work and sacrifice, and I am very happy that I have finally reached a position where I can really celebrate.”
The Dubai Championship is Tsitsipas’ 12th championship trophy in his career. Although he has won the ATP 1000-level championship, his previous 11 attempts to hit the ATP 500-level championship all ended in failure. Now he won the championship at this level for the first time.
Since then, Tsitsipas has unlocked all levels of ATP Tour titles-one year-end finals, three 1000 tournaments, one 500 tournament and seven 250 tournaments.

For Tsitsipas, who has been in a slump for a long time, this championship is undoubtedly a “timely rain”. He posted a message on his personal social media after the game, with the text: “They said my tennis was sinking… so I got myself a boat.”
