
The Pocheon City Government in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, said on the 9th that the latest investigation results showed that the accidental bombing of an air force fighter jet during a military exercise on the 6th had injured 31 people and damaged 142 houses.
The Pocheon City Government said that as of the 9th, the accidental bombing had injured 19 civilians and 12 soldiers, of which 2 civilians were seriously injured.
As the investigation progressed, the number of damaged houses also increased. Initially, 58 houses were reported to be damaged. After the second round of on-site investigations, the total number of damaged houses increased to 142. Among them, one house was seriously damaged.
As of the 9th, 22 families were forced to temporarily leave their homes, and another 9 families had returned home after their houses were repaired.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Gyeonggi Province Government and the Pocheon City Government launched the third round of on-site investigations early on the 9th, focusing on checking the power and gas supply systems, and will assess the structural safety of local houses.
On the 6th, two South Korean KF-16 fighter jets “abnormally” dropped four MK-82 unguided bombs during a joint military exercise between South Korea and the United States in Pocheon City. The eight bombs fell into a residential area outside the training ground and exploded, causing injuries and property damage. The cause of the accidental bombing was the pilot’s incorrect input of coordinates. This is the first time that a South Korean Air Force fighter jet has accidentally dropped bombs during training, causing injuries.
