HA VIEWPOINT(94HA.COM):U.S. President-elect Trump announced two key positions on his economic team on Tuesday (November 26).
Bloomberg reported that Trump issued a statement on the 26th saying that he would appoint economist Kevin Hassett as director of the White House National Economic Council and Jamieson Greer as U.S. Trade Representative.
The two candidates will directly lead Trump’s main economic agenda, which is to impose new tariffs and tax cuts.
Trump said Hassett will play an important role in helping American families recover from inflation caused by the Biden administration. He said: “We will update and improve tax cuts together.”
He also said that Greer will focus on controlling the huge U.S. trade deficit, defending U.S. manufacturing, agriculture and services, and opening up export markets everywhere.
Greer, 44, has long followed Trump’s trade representative Lighthizer in his first presidential term. When Lighthizer was the U.S. Trade Representative, Greer was his chief of staff. Lighthizer led Trump’s campaign to impose billions of dollars in tariffs on allies and adversaries such as China from 2017 to 2020.
During Trump’s first presidency, Hassett was a senior adviser to Trump and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
