The transition team of President-elect Trump of the United States said that they reached an agreement with the Department of Justice on Tuesday (December 3) to allow the Department of Justice to conduct background checks and security reviews on the list of new leaders submitted by the transition team.
Reuters reported that the new leadership team nominated by Trump must be reviewed by the Department of Justice before they can obtain confidential information.
The Trump transition team signed another agreement last week that allows the transition team to coordinate and obtain documents directly with federal agencies, but postponed the signing of the agreement with the Department of Justice.
The Trump transition team said in a statement that the agreement with the Department of Justice “helps our federal agency landing team obtain the information they need to prepare for the leadership of federal agencies and government departments.”
The next White House Chief of Staff Wiles said in a statement: “The agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure that President Trump and his team are ready on the first day and can begin to implement his American First agenda that is supported by the vast majority of Americans on Election Day.”
The White House Chief of Staff is a senior assistant to the President of the United States, responsible for arranging the President’s schedule, managing the White House team and affairs, etc. This position does not require Senate approval and can be appointed directly by the President.
Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2025.
