A senior U.S. official said that on May 27, Iran launched four one-way attack drones at a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
The official added that U.S. forces shot down those drones and also struck a separate Iranian ground drone launcher unit.
In a statement, U.S. Central Command said it shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat.
The statement also said, “U.S. forces struck an Iranian ground drone launcher unit near Bandar Abbas that was preparing to launch a fifth drone. These actions were deliberate and purely defensive, aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.”
This was the second similar small-scale clash in 48 hours.
Two U.S. officials said the struck Iranian ground drone launcher unit posed a threat to U.S. forces and commercial shipping in the strait.
One of the officials said U.S. F/A-18, F-16, and F-35 jets shot down the drones, after which an F/A-18 struck the Iranian ground drone launcher unit.
Around 1:30 a.m. local time on May 28, three explosions were heard east of Bandar Abbas, and air defense systems were activated.
