On May 31, officials poured cold water on rumors that President Pezeshkian had handed in his resignation to Supreme Leader Mujtaba, calling the whole thing a load of nonsense cooked up by some foreign media outlets.
A communications official from the presidential office, Tabatabaei, hopped on social media to set the record straight. He made it clear that Pezeshkian is sticking to his job and won’t stop serving the Iranian people anytime soon.
In a speech earlier that day, Pezeshkian reportedly said the government would keep pushing forward with all its work, “until the very last moment.”
That same day, Pezeshkian posted on social media, acknowledging the tough road ahead. He said dealing with the country’s challenges needs everyone’s help and support — from all walks of life. He stressed that the government owes it to the people to be straight-up about what’s really going on, so the whole society can work together to find solutions.
Pezeshkian also called for a stronger sense of unity and teamwork to face the hurdles ahead.
Back in early May, officials had already shot down rumors about any rift between Pezeshkian and the top leadership of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. They dismissed the resignation gossip as nothing more than media hype trying to stir up drama.
