On June 25, local time, US President Trump posted a message on social media, calling for the trial of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to be dropped.
The post said that he was “shocked to learn” that Israel continued to carry out “absurd political persecution” against Netanyahu, who was asked to “appear in court (next) Monday.” Trump called for the trial “to be immediately dropped” or Netanyahu to be pardoned. He also said, “The United States saved Israel in the past, and now the United States will save Netanyahu.”
According to Israeli media reports, the cross-examination of Netanyahu began on June 3 and is expected to take a year to complete. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has the power to pardon Netanyahu, but Israeli media quoted him as saying that the pardon “is not currently on the table.” Herzog also said that “no one has made such a request yet.”
