Multiple regional sources confirm that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported a US strike near the Strait of Hormuz late on the 2nd, which severely damaged an Iranian oil tanker’s engine compartment. In a swift countermove, IRGC naval forces launched a missile that struck the Panaya, a cargo vessel with known ties to US and Israeli commercial interests.
The official statement also noted that American airstrikes took out a key IRGC communications relay tower on the southern coast of Qeshm Island. That’s when the IRGC’s aerospace division stepped in, deploying a coordinated wave of missiles and drones aimed at a nearby military air and helicopter base, as well as the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet command center.
Tehran isn’t holding back on its warning either: any further attempts to destabilize navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with severe and immediate consequences.
The Fifth Fleet’s primary headquarters operates out of Bahrain, and it appears to be squarely in the crosshairs. Early on the 3rd, American military installations across both Bahrain and Kuwait faced sustained missile and drone barrages, with air raid sirens echoing continuously throughout the night.
Reports indicate the strikes on US bases were triggered almost instantly after loud detonations rippled through Qeshm Island. On-the-ground accounts confirm that residents woke up to at least three distinct blasts originating from the island’s southern sector in the early morning hours.
The operational fallout has been immediate and widespread: commercial airports across Bahrain, the UAE, and Kuwait have temporarily suspended all ground operations, grounding departing and arriving flights until airspace security is restored.
