On June 21, we learned that WeChat’s AI is rolling out in a small-scale beta test. Some users are now seeing a small eye-shaped icon in the upper-left corner of their WeChat main interface—this icon marks the entry point for the “Xiaowei” AI assistant testing version.
According to an introduction from Tencent customer service, WeChat Xiaowei is a native AI assistant that the WeChat team is internally testing on a small scale. Xiaowei supports interacting with WeChat’s native features and launching mini-programs through text or voice conversations. For example, it can help send messages to friends, check Moments, book services, and more.
