A joint statement from Qatar and Pakistan, serving as mediators for the Iran-US talks, was released on June 22, describing the negotiations as “held in a positive and constructive atmosphere, achieving encouraging progress, including the establishment of a mechanism for further technical talks.”
The statement noted that, based on a Memorandum of Understanding, all parties agreed to set up a high-level committee to oversee the negotiation process. Chief negotiators will regularly report to this committee and lead working groups on nuclear issues and sanctions, as well as a monitoring and dispute resolution team to ensure effective implementation of the agreement.
It also stated that the high-level committee has agreed on a roadmap for reaching a final deal between Iran and the US within 60 days, laying the groundwork for immediate further technical negotiations. Additionally, the two sides have established communication channels to guarantee the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz during talks on the final agreement.
Furthermore, the parties agreed to have the mediators help set up a conflict resolution team to ensure the cessation of military operations in Lebanon. Technical talks will continue this week in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
