Iraq: Do Not Allow Territory To Become A Springboard For Attacks

Iraq emphasized that its territory will not be used as a springboard for launching attacks or counterattacks.

Rasool, the spokesman for the Iraqi Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, issued a statement on Wednesday (November 6) emphasizing that recent rumors about using Iraqi territory for such purposes are false. “This is an excuse for relevant parties to attack Iraq and violate Iraq’s sovereignty.”

US media previously reported that Iran might launch a counterattack against Israel from within Iraq before the US presidential election on November 5 in response to Israeli military actions against Iranian targets at the end of October.

On October 31, the US news website Axios quoted two sources saying that Iran’s anticipated wave of attacks would involve a significant number of drones and ballistic missiles, with attacks being launched through pro-Iranian militias in Iraq.

The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran has raised concerns about further destabilization in the geopolitics of the Middle East.

In a statement, Rasool noted that Iraqi Prime Minister Sudani chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on National Security on Wednesday to analyze the overall security situation in Iraq. The Prime Minister reiterated strong support for the Palestinian and Lebanese people and condemned what was described as Israel’s “aggression” against the two countries.
