New York judge halts Trump hush money case

A document released on Tuesday, November 12th, revealed that a judge in New York has suspended the trial of former President Trump’s “hush money” case. Reuters reported that Judge Morshan was expected to decide on Tuesday whether Trump’s conviction could be overturned based on the Supreme Court’s ruling in July regarding presidential immunity. Trump was originally scheduled to be sentenced on November 26th.

Prosecutors from the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sent an email to Morshan on Sunday, November 10th, requesting a suspension of the litigation process because Trump had won the election and is set to take office in January 2025. The prosecutors wrote that Trump had asked the office to agree to a postponement.

The prosecutors stated, “The people agree this is an unprecedented situation.” Morshan suspended all litigation procedures in the case until November 19th. In May, the court ruled that Trump had falsified business records before being elected president in 2016 to cover up payments of hush money to a porn star, making Trump the first former president in American history to be convicted.
