China’s Firm Stance on Huangyan Dao

On November 10, 2025, the Philippines unilaterally declared the so-called “territorial sea baselines” around Huangyan Dao. This action constitutes a serious infringement on China’s sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, and it violates international law and the basic norms of international relations. China strongly condemns this move and firmly opposes it.

Huangyan Dao is Inherently Part of China’s Territory

Huangyan Dao has always been an inherent part of Chinese territory, and China has indisputable sovereignty over it. The Chinese government has consistently and resolutely safeguarded its territorial integrity and maritime rights and interests. The Philippines’ unilateral action is illegal and invalid, and it will not affect China’s sovereignty over Huangyan Dao.

Violation of International Law and the South China Sea Arbitration

China’s sovereignty, rights, and interests in the South China Sea are based on history and law, and they are fully supported by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The so-called “South China Sea arbitration ruling” is illegal, invalid, and has no binding force. China neither accepts nor recognizes it, nor will it be affected by it in any way.

China’s Call for Restraint and Dialogue

We urge the Philippines to immediately cease its infringement activities and to avoid taking any actions that could escalate tensions in the South China Sea. China is always committed to resolving disputes through peaceful dialogue and consultation, and to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea together with other regional countries. However, China will resolutely take necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
