According to reports, on August 1, U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media to announce he had agreed to call off the planned strike on Iran.
Trump stated: “Iran and other Middle Eastern nations have just asked us to hold off on any attacks, as both sides have reached an understanding on the framework of a deal. This will include the immediate, complete, and thorough opening of the Strait of Hormuz, along with putting an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
He added, “Based on this request, I have agreed to call off the attack, provided that a deal can be reached swiftly. Israel is also committed to this alongside me.”
Just a day earlier, on July 31, U.S. media, citing American officials, reported that President Trump was “seriously considering” launching strikes on Iranian energy facilities within the coming days, with operations possibly starting as early as this weekend and lasting for several days. However, Trump had not yet given the final order.
On August 1, U.S. embassies in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Iraq, Oman, and Israel issued security alerts, warning that tensions in the Middle East “could escalate further.” American citizens in the region were urged to remain highly vigilant, prepare for possible flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures, and travel disruptions, and consider leaving the area or making preparations to do so if the situation worsens.
Earlier that same day, Iranian media, citing an Iranian official, reported that Tehran views any U.S.-Israeli attack on its infrastructure as a “reckless act.” Iran has reportedly developed comprehensive plans to counter any “rash actions” the U.S. might take.
Later in the evening, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had warned the U.S. through intermediaries not to take any “adventurous actions.”
According to the report, Araghchi held phone conversations with Pakistan’s Army Chief of Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, discussing regional developments and the actions of the U.S. and Israel.
The report noted that during his calls with Munir and Fidan, Araghchi cautioned the U.S. against any “adventurous actions,” emphasizing that Iran is fully prepared to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, and will respond decisively to any act of aggression.
In his conversation with Prince Faisal, Araghchi stated that any aggression or hostile action from the U.S. and Israel, as well as any regional participation or support for such actions, would be met with a “firm and proportionate” response from Iran’s armed forces.
