On August 16, President Trump took to Truth Social to express his enthusiasm over the recent joint defense pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
“So thrilled to see Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan finally ink the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement,” Trump wrote. “This signals the Middle East is moving toward unity, and nations will ultimately be able to defend themselves more effectively. Kudos to the leaders of these three countries—this is a meaningful, bold, and vital first step. Fantastic!”
The leaders of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed the agreement in Mecca on the 7th. According to a joint statement, the pact aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any aggression, stipulating that an armed attack on one nation is considered an attack on all. It also promotes deeper defense cooperation across various sectors.
Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar noted on the 8th that the agreement “is not targeted at any other country” and does not replace existing bilateral or multilateral security commitments.
