With talks between Washington and Tehran grinding to a halt, President Trump announced on Monday a fresh wave of pressure against Iran, describing it as “devastating economic action.”
In a social media post, Trump argued that Iran had blown its chance to strike a deal with the United States, and declared what he called “the most devastating economic action ever taken against a country” — framing it as an unprecedented economic war and a campaign of total isolation.
The President went further, warning that any nation allowing its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to offer any form of support to Iran would face serious economic repercussions. He also called on all U.S. allies to join forces in isolating and countering what he termed the Iranian threat.
Just last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent cautioned that a fresh wave of economic isolation measures against Iran would be unveiled within days, paired with a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz aimed at preventing any goods from moving in or out of Iranian ports.
