Lately, whispers have been circulating around the tech scene that Gu Quancquan, a former member of ByteDance’s Seed team, has left to launch his own venture. Some chatter even painted him as the lead behind the team’s AI drug discovery and large language model (LLM) pre-training efforts.

Here’s the straight talk: “Gu definitely contributed to biomolecular structure prediction and LLM pre-training projects while he was here, but he was never the go-to lead for AI pharma or pre-training at Seed. As for his new startup, we’re just as in the dark about it as everyone else.”
