July 1 News – A major name in the large model space, technology expert Sun Tianxiang, has officially joined Baidu. He will serve as the head of the company’s Basic Model Unit (BMU) and also become a member of the Baidu Model Committee (BMC).
Previously, Baidu had set up two dedicated teams: the Basic Model Unit (BMU) and the Application Model Unit (AMU), with the latter being led by Jia Lei. On top of that, the company established the Baidu Model Committee to oversee AI organizational structure and talent pipelines. They’ve also been bringing in younger technical talent in multiple waves, all part of a systematic strategy to build out their foundational model capabilities.
