The US Central Command posted on social media on July 28 that at 5:45 PM Eastern Time that day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles from within Iranian territory, attempting a surprise attack on American forces stationed in the Middle East.
“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. US forces remain on high alert and combat-ready,” the Central Command stated.
President Trump said on July 27 that he had paused a planned military strike against Iran on July 24 to leave room for diplomatic negotiations.
Trump noted that the US is currently in “deep talks” with Iran. However, he also warned that if diplomatic efforts fail, the US will resume “strong military action.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei said on July 27 that Iran is not currently engaged in any talks with the US, but both sides continue to exchange messages through mediators. He emphasized that Tehran will not allow Washington to decide the timing of war and peace.
