Honestly, the situation in the Middle East is getting intense. According to reports from Israeli media, Prime Minister Netanyahu is set to convene a security cabinet meeting today to discuss the situations in Iran and Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel is gearing up for a potential showdown on both fronts.
The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, reported that a member of the security cabinet revealed the meeting plans. The report also mentioned that US President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s latest negotiation proposal and confirmed that he’s considering military action against Iran.
Here’s the deal, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the Israeli Defense Forces’ Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, recently spoke with the head of the US Central Command, General Kenneth McKenzie, to coordinate a potential response to various scenarios. The report stated that any attack on Iran would likely lead to retaliation against Israel. The Israeli military has been receiving a large shipment of military equipment and is preparing for a potential escalation.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that today’s security cabinet meeting is also expected to discuss the situation in Gaza. Israel believes that Hamas has not adhered to the agreement to disarm, and negotiations are underway with mediators. A ground operation in Gaza is not entirely out of the question.
According to Haaretz, Hamas responded to the US-led “Peace Committee” proposal, which suggested that Hamas hand over its weapons in stages. Hamas basically rejected the proposal, demanding clearer guarantees for Palestinian independence and insisting that disarmament be part of a broader framework for Palestinian statehood. They also called for Israel to stop violating the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli military issued several statements on Tuesday, revealing that they had launched airstrikes against targets in southern Lebanon and Gaza.

Earlier, Iran revealed that they had submitted a new negotiation proposal to the US through Pakistani mediators. The proposal includes 14 points, focusing on “ending the war.”
According to the Tasnim news agency, the US had previously proposed a 9-point plan, to which Iran responded with their 14-point proposal. The US had requested a two-month ceasefire, but Iran emphasized that all issues should be resolved within 30 days, with a focus on “ending the war” rather than extending the ceasefire.
The proposal includes ensuring no further military aggression, the withdrawal of US forces from the region, lifting the naval blockade, unfreezing Iranian assets, paying compensation, canceling sanctions, and establishing peace on all fronts, including Lebanon.
On Tuesday evening, Trump said in an interview that there’s a possibility of the US resuming airstrikes against Iran.
Later that evening, Trump tweeted that he would soon review Iran’s latest proposal, but “can’t imagine” it being acceptable. He also threatened that Iran “hasn’t paid a big enough price yet.”
Other reports suggest that Trump had rejected an Iranian proposal earlier in the week, but talks are ongoing. The three-week ceasefire is largely holding.
Additionally, Trump proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, which carries about a fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas exports.
