Mexican drug lord killed by government forces

So, here’s the scoop: Mexico’s Public Security Agency just dropped the news that a big-name drug boss—yeah, the sort with a bounty on his head from the US—got smoked in a firefight with government troops. Not exactly a quiet Friday.

Havock, the agency’s secretary (who apparently loves making announcements on X, because why not), posted that Jorge Humberto Figueroa—one of the Sinaloa Cartel’s top brass—bit the dust during a raid last Friday. The guy was wanted by the DEA, too. They’d slapped a million-dollar reward on him for running fentanyl and laundering cash. Honestly, that’s a lot of incentive for someone to rat you out.

Sinaloa itself? Absolute mayhem lately—two rival gangs have been going at it like it’s a bad action movie, racking up roughly 1,200 deaths since last September. Not exactly the kind of tourism ad they want.

Havock also mentioned Figueroa was a big player behind the infamous 2019 Culiacan mess. Remember that wild day? Cops nabbed Ovidio Guzman—aka “Mouse,” one of El Chapo’s kids—and the cartel lost its mind. Carnage, shootouts, chaos everywhere. Authorities ended up letting Ovidio go, just to calm things down. Wild times. (Spoiler: they got him again in 2023, and now he’s chilling in US custody.)

According to Mexican media, Figueroa ran the security detail for the Guzman Jr. branch of Sinaloa. Lately, that crew’s been duking it out with Zambada’s faction—Ismael Zambada being another OG Sinaloa kingpin. Zambada himself got tricked into the US and arrested earlier this year. As for El Chapo? He’s been locked up stateside since 2017, sentenced to life plus a $12.6 billion fine. That’s… well, that’s a lot of money, man. Good luck collecting.
