Wildfires Rage On: Minnesota Governor Declares Peacetime Emergency

According to a report from Reuters, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz declared a “peacetime emergency” on May 12, activating the state’s National Guard to help battle wildfires in the northern part of the state near the Canadian border.

Walz posted on social media, saying, “I’ve declared a peacetime emergency and mobilized the National Guard to assist with the wildfires in northern Minnesota.” He also thanked the first responders for their efforts.

According to information posted on the Minnesota state government website, Reuters noted that the wildfires have spread over 800 acres (about 323.75 hectares) in just five days and remain uncontrolled.
