HA VIEWPOINT(94HA.COM):The case of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib and former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Finance Irwan breaching government assets and allocations was sentenced on Wednesday (November 27). The Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that the two were “released but not acquitted”.

This case involving Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) is related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

“Malaysia Today” reported that because the prosecution failed to submit several key confidential documents, the Kuala Lumpur High Court approved the defense’s application on the 27th and ruled that Najib and Irwan were released but not acquitted.

On October 24, 2018, Najib and Irwan were charged with six counts of breach of trust involving an amount of RM6.6 billion (about S$2 billion) related to the payment to IPIC. The two pleaded not guilty to the charges.
