Aleš Svoboda Selected as Prime Crew for Czech Vast-1 ISS Mission
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced on June 8 that fighter pilot and engineer Aleš Svoboda has been selected as the prime crewmember for the Vast-1 mission. The flight will dock with the ISS for approximately ten days, with ESA as mission integrator and Vast providing crew transportation. The Czech Republic is funding the mission with roughly €60 million from its national space budget. Svoboda, an ESA astronaut reservist since 2022, will carry out a compact but symbolically significant science programme.
