On June 1, President Trump said he believes he will reach an agreement with Iran “within the next week” to extend the current ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“Looking good,” Trump said. “There was a small issue today, but I took care of it quickly.”
Trump said the small issue was that Iran was upset about an Israeli attack on Lebanon.
“So I talked to Hezbollah. I said, ‘Don’t shoot.’ Then I talked to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and told him, ‘Don’t shoot.’ After that, they stopped firing at each other.”
Trump said a peace deal with Iran could be “even better than a military victory.”
He said, “It’s not easy for them, and honestly, it’s not easy from our side either. But we’re getting what we need.”
Regarding when the memorandum of understanding on reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be completed and signed, Trump said: “I think you’re talking about within the next week.”
Trump said he hasn’t agreed yet because “I need to get a few more points.”
