Trump: ‘US-Iran deal makes it crystal clear: Iran can’t have nukes’

President Trump took to social media on May 31 to call out a big news network for spreading what he called “fake news” about Iran. He doubled down, insisting the U.S.-Iran deal “explicitly states that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons.”

In his post, Trump wrote: “The fake news network is at it again today, running with the story that my Iran nuclear deal doesn’t even touch on nuclear issues. But the truth is, the deal says straight up: Iran will not have nuclear weapons. It goes into crazy detail on every aspect of the nuclear question. Honestly, most of the deal is all about that.”

Earlier that same day, that very network reported that the president had sent his proposed changes back to Iran. The report, citing a person familiar with the matter, said the edits weren’t anything major—just focused on getting U.S. guarantees on nuclear stuff and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. It also noted that Iran has kept saying that, within the current talks, they won’t get into the nitty-gritty of their nuclear program.
