US-Iran talks show signs of progress.
According to a report by Al Arabiya TV, cited by Xinhua, the US and Iran may reach a memorandum of understanding, with Pakistan as the intermediary, without the need for a face-to-face meeting. The two sides will then negotiate a final agreement, with the next round of talks possibly taking place on June 5.
Additionally, based on reports from CCTV News and other sources, the draft memorandum includes the following provisions:
- A 30-day period during which the Strait of Hormuz will be “open for free navigation”, with Iran clearing its mines in the strait and ensuring the free passage of ships;
- The US will lift its blockade on Iranian ports and introduce partial sanctions exemptions, allowing Iran to freely sell its oil;
- An end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, with the US and its allies committing not to attack Iran and its allies;
After the 30-day period, the agreement can be extended by mutual consent, and the two sides will begin negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
Two US officials revealed that the memorandum does not address the issue of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, leaving the details to be resolved in a separate negotiation. The US insists on “action for action”, while Iran demands the immediate unfreezing of funds and permanent lifting of sanctions, which the US says will only happen if Iran makes substantial concessions.

Other informed sources have confirmed most of the content, but the details have not been verified by Iran. The draft is still subject to change, and the talks may yet collapse, but the White House hopes to resolve the remaining differences within the next few hours and announce the agreement on May 24.
Earlier on May 24, US Secretary of State Rubio, who is visiting India, stated that progress had been made in resolving the Hormuz Strait issue over the past 48 hours. Good news on the Hormuz Strait situation may be expected in the next few hours.
Tasnim News Agency in Iran has also confirmed that there are still two to three points of disagreement between the US and Iran, and if the US continues to create obstacles, a final understanding will not be possible. Once the Supreme National Security Council of Iran approves the memorandum, it will be submitted to Supreme Leader Mujtaba Hamenei for final approval.
However, it’s worth noting that US President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have been in close communication over the past day to discuss the Iran situation.
According to Israeli sources, Trump reiterated the need to prevent Iran’s nuclear program and ensure that Iran does not possess enriched uranium. Trump stated that the US will not sign any final agreement until these conditions are met.
Netanyahu told Trump that Israel will continue to take action against potential threats on all fronts, including Lebanon, and expressed appreciation for Trump’s efforts to ensure Israel’s national security. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office has not commented on the matter.
