According to reports from international media on August 13, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the US military possesses sufficient resources to maintain an “indefinite” maritime blockade against Iran.
He told reporters that day: “The US Navy can sustain this type of blockade indefinitely. Just as we’ve done in the past, we’ll keep rotating our ships.”
The US military resumed its maritime blockade on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas on July 14.
On August 12, former President Donald Trump posted online saying the US has total control over the Strait of Hormuz, adding, “I think we’ll continue to hold it!” He also claimed Iran is powerless to do anything about it.
Meanwhile, according to Iran International, on August 13, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, Ali Azmaei, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and that his forces have full control over passage through the waterway.
