US imposes tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum exports

On March 11, local time, US President Trump said that he had instructed the Secretary of Commerce to impose an additional 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum products from Canada, bringing the tariff level for all steel and aluminum entering the United States from Canada to 50%, which will take effect on the morning of March 12.

Caroline Levitt, the White House press secretary, said on the same day that in fact, “Canada has been exploiting the United States and hard-working Americans for decades.” Canada has always been an ally of the United States, but now it may be becoming a competitor.

On February 10, US President Trump signed an executive order announcing a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imported into the United States.
