According to multiple U.S. media outlets including the Associated Press and The Washington Post, two U.S. Supreme Court justices—Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett—are scheduled to appear before a congressional hearing on Thursday morning to testify about the need for increased security funding. This marks the first time since 2019 that Supreme Court justices have testified before Congress, prompting several American media outlets to describe the event as “rare.”

Based on reports from the above outlets, amid escalating threats targeting the Supreme Court, the hearing is expected to focus on the Court’s request for an additional $16.6 million in its next fiscal year budget. This funding would bolster security measures for the justices both at work and in their personal lives.
The Associated Press, citing a report from the U.S. Marshals Service, which is responsible for protecting federal judges, noted that 564 threat incidents were recorded in the 2025 fiscal year—an increase from the previous year. While this figure includes threats against hundreds of federal judges across the country, the nine-member Supreme Court has not been spared from such dangers.
