Trump: What’s It Got to Do with Us? We’re Just Selling Weapons

The New York Times reported that on June 16, during the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, U.S. President Trump commented on the Russia-Ukraine conflict: “Listen, this has nothing to do with us.”

He added, “Except for selling weapons to Ukraine, this conflict has no real impact on the United States. We’re thousands of miles away from Ukraine.”

Trump revealed he had met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the summit. He described the meeting as “very productive” and mentioned they would meet again.

When asked if he would give Ukraine “special attention,” Trump gave a firm no.

Trump also said the heat of the U.S.-Iran conflict would soon be “history,” but for now, his full focus remains on the Iran issue.

He indicated that, given the U.S. has reached an agreement and the Strait of Hormuz will reopen for navigation, he is willing to reinstate sanctions on Russian oil. Earlier this year, the U.S. temporarily lifted those penalties while working to calm surging international energy prices triggered by tensions with Iran.
