The Republican Party has successfully taken control of the Senate by winning Senate seats in West Virginia and Ohio from the Democratic Party, securing a 51-49 majority in the Senate after Tuesday’s (November 5th) midterm elections.
If Republican presidential candidate Trump ultimately wins the presidential election, controlling the Senate will enable him to appoint conservative judges and officials. Even if the Democratic presidential candidate Harris wins, a Republican-controlled Senate could hinder her agenda.
On the same day, the outcome of the U.S. House of Representatives elections remains unclear. According to reports from The New York Times, the Democrats have won 147 seats so far, while the Republicans have secured 180 seats. For the Republicans to maintain control of the 435-seat House of Representatives, they must secure at least 218 seats.
